Detailed Itinerary:
Day O1: Kathmandu (1,300m) – Lhasa (3,650m)
Fly for about an hour over the panoramic Himalayan Region to the capital of Tibet Lhasa at an elevation of 3,650 meters situated on the bank of Kyichu River. Land on Gongaar Airport then drive for an hour to Lhasa. Acclimatize in hotel. O/N at hotel.
Day 02: Lhasa Sightseeing
Today after breakfast we visit the Jokhang temple which houses Tibet’s most precious relic, a golden Shakyamunni Bhuddha which was brought as a gift by the Chinese Princess Wen Cheng on the occasion of her wedding to the Tibetan King, Songstsen Gompo. Afterwards, we pay visit to Barkhor Market which surrounds the Jokhang Temple. After lunch we visit the most popular Potala Palace which once served as the residence of Dalai Lama. This 13 storied 1000 room citadel served as the headquarters of the former “church-state” of Tibet. Overnight at Hotel.
Day 03: Lhasa Excursion
Enjoying Lhasa Tour with Ganden and Drak Yerpa this morning we drive for Drepung Monastery situated 8 km weat of Lhasa which is largest Monastery in Tibet that occupies over 10,000 of Monks. Then we drive for Sera Monastery which is situated 5 km north o Lhasa. The monastery is magnificent and covers an area of 114,946 square meters (28 acres). Its main buildings are the Coqen Hall, Zhacang (college) and Kamcun (dormitory). Overnight at hotel.
Day 04: Lhasa-Ganden Monastery-Lhasa (120km)
Today we visit the Ganden Monastery which is 40 km northeast of Lhasa. It is located at the top of Wangbur Mountain at an altitude of 4,300m. Ganden is one of the “great three” Gelug university monasteries of Tibet and was founded by Tsongkhapa in 1409. The temple is comprised of over 50 structures. The main halls in the temple are the Main Assembly hall (Coqen Hall), Zhacang (college), Khangstens and Myicuns. Later we pay visit to Drak Yerpa which is 16 km northeast of Lhasa. It consists of a monastery and a number of ancient meditation caves that used to house about 300 monks. At evening we drive back to Lhasa. Overnight at Lhasa.
Day 05: Lhasa to Kathmandu
Your Lhasa Tour with Ganden and Drak Yerpa terminates today so after breakfast drive to the airport and catch the flight to the Kathmandu leaving behind the roof of the world.
